Sephora Spring Sale Recommendations - April 2021
Hllo, hello! It is that time of year again - the Sephora spring sale is around the corner. As a recap, Sephora does a blanket 20-10% off all of its items depending on shopping tier, which happens twice a year:
Rouge: April 9 - 19 - 20% OFF
VIB: April 13 – 19 - 15% OFF
Beauty Insider (free to join, no minimum) - April 15 – 19 - 10% OFF
A gentle reminder to shop responsibly, and that some of these products may be for sale at a greater discount from the brand website. Here are my picks that are broken down by skincare and makeup, with shade recommendations:
Skincare is highly personal, so I'm going to focus on products that are basics to a good skincare routine.
It Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser - I've purchased this gentle cleanser numerous times. It removes makeup and cleanses the skin in one step. If I have particularly stubborn makeup on, I can use this again for a second cleanse without stripping the skin.
First Aid Beauty Pure Skin Face Cleanser - No frills, foaming cleanser that is good for sensitive skin.
Sulwhasoo Gentle Cleansing Oil - Perfect for a first cleanse to remove makeup or for really dry skin.
Skinfix Barrier+ Foaming Oil Cleanser - A really gentle low foaming cleanser for sensitive skin.
Serums and Treatments:
I use tretinoin, which does most of the heavy lifting for me. But, I do like to use some supportive skincare for hyperpigmentation and texture. Below are my top picks:
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Extra Strength Daily Peel - Another holy grail product for me. I don't use these everyday, maybe 1-2 times a week depending on how often I used my tretinoin. One box lasts a long time, and was crucial for helping me clear up clogged pores and maskne, and hyperpigmentation that was left as a result. Check my before and afters here.
Sulwhasoo Balancing Emulsion and Balancing Water - If I only had to use one hydrating toner, I would pick one of these. I use the water under a hyaluronic acid serum and the emulsion in the winter when my skin is more dry, both right after cleansing. Read more about them here.
The Ordinary Azelaic Acid - Works beautifully to enhance the effects of my tretinoin, and adds much-needed moisture.
I don't put a lot of stock into moisturizers, I just need it to seal my serum and hydrating products in. So, I'm not too picky and don't like to splurge (no La Mer for me). However, here are ones I really enjoy:
Kiehl's Since 1851 Ultra Facial Cream - A basic, great moisturizer that will work for almost everyone.
Kiehl's Since 1851 Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado - Ive repurchased this eye cream so many times, it is a huge favorite of mine.
Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base Priming Moisturizer - Great to layer under makeup and to use as its own. It is very thick, so may not be great for oily skin. Do not buy the trial size, it tends to melt and the texture isn't the same.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Firming Collagen Cream with Peptides and Niacinamide - a good all-purpose moisturizer
Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Firming Cashmere Moisturizer - It is a great compliment to the serum, and a beautiful, luxe user experience. Will also make a great gift.
SUNDAY RILEY C.E.O Vitamin C Rich Hydration Cream - My sister swears by this cream for brightening and smoothing the skin.
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare All-Physical Lightweight Wrinkle Defense Broad Spectrum Suncreen SPF 30 - A good physical sunscreen option for darker skin tones. Check out my demo and review here. I use the three-finger approach, and I was able to apply this amount in two layers. There was an initial white caste that disappeared within five minutes of application as the product settled into the skin.
Supergoop - Supergoop has a lot of great sunscreen options for darker skin tones:
Supergoop! PLAY Everyday Lotion SPF 50 PA++++ - a great organic sunscreen option, leaves a dewy finish
Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 - A primer-like, silicone-based sunscreen that makes a great base for makeup.
Caudalie Vinosculpt Lift & Firm Body Cream - This is the perfect body cream for me. It is easily absorbed, smells luxurious but not overpowering (and not sweet), and a little goes a long way. I'm not sure if it actually lifts and firms, but this has made its way into my nightly bedtime ritual. It is lovely.
Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta® Exfoliating Body Treatment Peel 8 Textured Towels - These are pricey, but they work for texture and hyperpigmentation. Read my thoughts here.
Hair Treatments and Tools:
Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil - Absolutely divine, and a must for blowing out your hair. It makes the hair so soft and silky! I also enjoy the blowout cream/primer and the heat protecting spray. These make GREAT gifts, and still kind of an Instagram secret - gift set here.
Amika Instant Shine Hair Gloss - This last step of your shower routine makes your hair SO shiny.
Amika Hair Blow Dryer Brush - This is a must for a blowout. I can do my hair in half the time with less heat damage. and it looks amazing, like fresh out of the salon.
I shop all over for makeup, so below is a very non-exhaustive list of some of my favorite products from Sephora that I've tried.
Base and Foundation:
Fenty - Any of the three formulas are great. For full coverage, the soft matte has never failed me and I've purchased at least three bottles. For a dewy finish, I like the hydrating formula. The latest release, which is the skin tint Esze Drop, is also great for easy application with fingers!
Pat McGrath - Any of the Luxetrance lipsticks are amazing and so long-lasting. After they set, they are also mostly transfer-proof.
Sephora Collection Jelly Melt - This is a glossy gel stain that is reminiscent of water tints from KBeauty. They are so beautiful and comfortable, perfect for spring and summer. I adore Samba, Flamenco, and Mambo, but you can't go wrong with any of them.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask - There is a reason this has a cult following, I've been using this for five years and have tried almost all the flavors. It also comes in a tube, love the gummy bear flavor!
Sephora Collection Spice Market - I've had this powder blush palette for years. Every shade is perfect for medium to deep tan skin. It is an all-in-one travel friendly palette.
Pat McGrath - Pick one based on your makeup tastes. Personally, I prefer the following:
Mothership VI: Divine Rose II
Mothership III: Subversive
Huda Beauty - I am a huge Huda Beauty fan, and love all of my eyeshadow palettes. They are easy to use and pack a punch. Here are my top favorites:
Makeup by Mario - Severely underrated makeup brand in Sephora. I love every product I've purchased so far from Mario. I think the eye primer palette is essential. I also love the multipurpose reflector in Citrine. The Master Metallics Eyeshadow Palette has some amazingly beautiful shades, which Mario has many tutorials on his Instagram.
