Besame Cosmetics

A couple of weeks ago, I received a package from Besame Cosmetics. I’ve heard of this vintage-inspired brand before, but I did not realize how well thought out and inspired Besame Cosmetics is. The founder, Gabriela Hernandez, is an artist and cosmetic historian (I didn't even know that was a thing!) started the brand as a way to combat “fast makeup,” in the same vein as fast fashion. Gabriela’s background really shines through in the brand, each product and shade is truly inspired.

Let’s get to the products themselves, I received two lipsticks (Wild Orchid and Blood Red) and a cake mascara (in Purple). The packaging of the lipstick tubes truly have a vintage feel, they are sleek and look stunning on the vanity. And, how unique and eco-friendly is the mascara cake in its vintage tin packaging?

The application of the lipsticks are fantastic, they are fully pigmented upon first swipe, and are moisturizing. The formula doesn’t slip around, and the pigment can be varied by preference. You can dab in a little over chapstick for a nice tint or apply full color, and the shade doesn’t change depending on application. I don’t really need a lip liner with these, although I can see how it would enhance the vintage look. I absolutely adore the packaging, it is so unique and feels so nice in the hands.

The cake mascara really surprised me. Application wise, you place a few drops of water onto the cake and use the provided brush to swish around the water until you get a paste, then comb it through the lashes. I have black lashes so I didn’t get to see the purple pigment on my lashes, but they were volumized, separated, and lifted. You can also use the cake as a liner with a thin brush tip (not included).

For the vintage lover in your life, or for the makeup junkie who has everything, this is a great line to choose products for gifting.

Besame Cosmetics isn’t sold at Sephora anymore, but you can buy directly here.
